8:32 PM 1/11/2026New raws for The Magnificent Zubat sourced from the Blu-Ray box.
Main Video: 10-bit x264, 720p
Extras video: 10-bit x264, 480p
Audio: AAC
Series is pretty good. There is DNR, but it's less heavy than, say, Gavan. Biggest issue is that some of the previews (and only previews) have color grading issues. One frame will be fine, and the next will have a red tint.
Extras were included on a reprint of the bonus disc from the 2004 DVD box. Given the things I learned since making the DVD raws, I've redone everything there.
Hiroshi Miyauchi's Location Scouting Trip
Made for the 2004 DVD box set. VFR (mostly 24fps and 60fps)
Shukei Nagasaka + Hiroshi Miyauchi Special Interview:
Made for the 2004 DVD box set. 60fps.
Features lead writer Shukei Nagasaka and lead actor Hiroshi Miyauchi
The Magnificent Zubat Memorial
Originally a 2000 Laserdisc release. VFR (mostly 20fps and 60fps)
Contains a roundtable featuring director Hideo Tanaka, director Shigeho Hirota, producer Kojin Ono, and lead actor Hiroshi Miyauchi
Original Broadcast OP Collection:
24fps.
All 32 openings from the original run on Tokyo Channel 12 (now TV Tokyo). These have an additional entry in the credits for Tokyo Channel 12 that was dropped on broadcast for other regions and reruns.
Dakkar Boss and Hired Men Data Files:
Still images.
Both the Memorial and Location Scouting Report use the same composite video transfers for footage of the show (thankfully free of any field blending), with new material shot using interlaced video. The original broadcast OP collection is component transfers of very grainy film prints.
